Earth’s Wild Beings

Sri Lankan Elephant (Elephas maximus maximus)

In the lush jungles of Sri Lanka, a young elephant named Lakshmi followed her mother through the dense foliage. Life was peaceful until one day, a sudden wildfire swept through the forest. The herd panicked, but Lakshmi’s mother took charge, trumpeting loudly to gather the younger elephants.

Leading them to a nearby river, the herd used the water as a shield against the flames. Lakshmi, initially frightened, watched as her elders worked together to protect the calves. Once the fire subsided, the herd returned to their charred home. Over time, the forest regrew, and Lakshmi became a matriarch, passing down the lessons of survival to her own herd.
