Earth’s Wild Beings

Spotted Seal (Phoca largha)

Far in the icy waters of the North Pacific, a spotted seal named Kira learned early that survival required cunning. One winter, as she rested on the edge of the ice, she noticed a pod of orcas hunting nearby. The seals around her panicked, diving into the frigid water. Kira, however, stayed still, blending with the spotted ice, her instincts telling her that movement would attract attention. The orcas passed by, not noticing her. Later that evening, Kira dived to hunt fish, surfacing victoriously with her catch. Her calm demeanor and sharp instincts earned her respect among her fellow seals.
